History of the Team

The Phoenix Suns are a franchise that competes in the National Basketball Association. The team plays in the Western Conference Pacific Division and is based out of Phoenix, Arizona. The Suns are the only team in the Pacific Division that does not compete in California.

The team was established in 1968 as an NBA expansion team. The Phoenix Suns struggled in their first few seasons, but they become dominant in the 1970s. The Suns contended for their first NBA Finals in 1976, thanks to the dominant trio of Dick Van Arsdale, Alvan Adams, and Paul Westphal.

The Suns did not win the 1976 NBA Championship. They would not make it to the Finals again until 1993, but they were defeated once again. The Suns went on a long-term slide until the early 2000s when Steve Nash became the franchise centerpiece.

The Suns experienced a lot of success, with Steve Nash leading the way. However, they never captured a title, and the franchise has not won the NBA Finals to this day. The Suns have the seventh-best winning percentage in NBA history and ten former players in the Hall of Fame.

However, they are still searching for their first NBA title to accompany their division and conference championships.

2020-21 Update

Phoenix has never won an NBA Finals, but 2021 could be the year to shatter this streak. The Suns play in the Western Conference Pacific Division, one of the best sectors of the NBA. The Pacific Division features the Los Angeles Lakers, the defending NBA Champions, and the Golden State Warriors, a team that has won five conference titles and three NBA Championships since 2015.

Thanks to a recent slide by the Los Angeles Lakers, the Phoenix Suns have moved into first place in the Pacific Division. The Suns are currently 26-12 and 0.5 games ahead of the Lakers.

Phoenix is a strong franchise because of its depth. The team is led by Devin Booker, who is averaging 25.1 points per game. However, the supporting players on this team, like Chris Paul, Deandre Ayton, and Mikal Bridges, are fantastic.

Any team with Chris Paul in a supporting role will be good, which has proven true with the Suns. The Suns are scoring 114.1 points per game which is first in the league. They are giving up 107.6 points per contest which is the fourth-best in the NBA.

Additionally, Phoenix is dealing 27.2 assists every night, which ranks them at third in the league. The Suns are the definition of a true team, which has helped them find success throughout 2020-21.

Betting Forecast of the Team

The Phoenix Suns have been treating bettors very well this year. The Suns are 26-12, so they have been dominating the moneyline throughout 2020-21. The Suns are not only the best team in the Pacific Division.

Phoenix is the second-best team in the Western Conference. They are only two games behind the Utah Jazz in the conference, who have a 28-10 record. The Suns are trending upwards, unlike the Jazz.

In the past ten contests, the Jazz has gone 5-5. The Suns are 8-2 in their past ten games. There is not a better team in the Western Conference in their past ten contests than Phoenix.

Phoenix has been pretty even on the road and at home in 2020-21. The Suns are 13-7 inside Phoenix Suns Arena and 13-5 on their opponents’ floor. The same goes for the Suns against the spread.

On the road, the Suns are 13-5 ATS, and at home, Phoenix is 13-7 ATS. They cover 67% of the time as favorites, and they are 6-2 ATS as underdogs. They are even against the over in 2020-21 with a 19-19 record.

The Suns have performed better ATS than any other team in the Pacific Division. The next closest team ATS is the Clippers at 22-19. Nobody else in the division is over .500 ATS this year.

Star Players

The Phoenix Suns have an incredible roster that one player headlines. The secondary athletes on this team are reputable and can pick up the slack on any given night. It has shown in the statistic sheet and the win column.

The Lakers are not as deep, and it has shown with the injuries they are enduring. This has allowed the Phoenix Suns to rise to the top of the Pacific Division. The best player on the team is a 6’5” guard named Devin Booker.

Booker is 24 years old and dropping 25.1 points and 4.6 assists per game. The scary thing about Booker is his ability to put the basketball in the hoop from all different areas of the court. Booker is shooting just under 50% from the field in 2020-21.

Booker was chosen 13th overall by the Phoenix Suns in the 2015 NBA Draft. It could not have been a better selection because of Booker’s massive production in today’s game.

Chris Paul is Booker’s go-to-guy on the court. Paul is an 11-time All-Star, a four-time All-NBA, and a future Hall of Famer. He is second on the team in scoring with 15.9 PPG, and he is leading the team in assists with 8.8 per contest.

Paul is putting up these numbers in his age 35 season, which is even more remarkable.
