According to a report from Yahoo, a $1,000 bet was placed with the chance at a payout of $113,000. This bet was placed at BetMGM, and the Arizona Cardinals and Phoenix Suns were the teams used in the wager.
At the time that the bet was placed, the Arizona Cardinals were +850 to win the Super Bowl, and the Phoenix Suns were +1100 to win the NBA title. Since this was a two-leg parlay, both teams have to win a championship for this wager to hit.
Parlay wagering has become extremely popular for sports bettors because of the huge payout potential associated with it. The odds are multiplied when these two bets are combined, which is why a reward of more than $100,000 could be coming.
A name has not yet been associated with this report, and it’s unclear if the bettor intends to let this bet ride or if he will be “cashing out” at any point in time. BetMGM Sportsbook could offer a cash-out option if it feels that there is a good chance the wager will be successful.
The Arizona sports betting market is expected to become one of the biggest in the United States, but monthly reports have not yet been made available. Similar wagers have hit throughout the U.S. in the past, but it doesn’t happen often.
Cardinals Face Tough Challenge
It’s hard to say what team will have the toughest challenge in attempting to win a title, but the Cardinals appear to have more great teams to deal with. Arizona is also a team that hasn’t had much recent postseason success, and that is always a cause for concern.
Entering Week 14, the Cardinals have actually seen the Super Bowl odds lower to just +750, which is trending in the right direction for this bettor. That still has the Cardinals in third place on the list, and there is a large group of teams right on their heels.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+500) and the Kansas City Chiefs (+550) are the two teams in front of the Cardinals, and each team was in the Super Bowl a season ago. The Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots have recently joined Arizona at +750, and each team is playing with a ton of momentum.
Suns Off to Blistering Start
The Phoenix Suns are in a similar position as the Arizona Cardinals, as the title odds have increased since this bet was made. Phoenix is now at +900 to win the title, and an 18-game winning streak earlier this year put the league on notice.
The Suns made a stunning run to the NBA Finals a season ago but came up just short against the Milwaukee Bucks. Getting back to the NBA Finals is obviously the first step for the Suns, and one bettor hopes that they can win one extra series this time around.
The Brooklyn Nets (+260) and the Golden State Warriors (+600) are currently the title favorites in the NBA, but the Suns are in the mix. If the Cardinals are able to win the Super Bowl in February, then more attention will be placed on the Suns and their title hopes.
