The sports season is in high gear in the desert these days. October looks to be one of the best months for sports in Arizona. Let’s get a re-set of what is going on in the world of sports for the state of Arizona.
Arizona Diamondbacks Postseason
How about that Arizona Diamondbacks first inning? The Diamondbacks plated six runs in the first inning and did it off Clayton Kershaw. It was all Diamondbacks all night on Saturday to go ahead 1-0 in the National League Divisional Series.
This win came after the Diamondbacks beat the Milwaukee Brewers in back-to-back games in the first series. The Diamondbacks are the underdog to win the National League of the four teams remaining. Arizona is listed at +350, while the Dodgers still remain at +250 to win it.
The Diamondbacks get Sunday off before Game Two is on Monday. The teams will head to Phoenix for Games 3 and a possible Game 4 on Wednesday and Thursday.
Arizona Cardinals Schedule Continues
After the Arizona Cardinals play their home game against the Bengals on Sunday, they are just five weeks into their first 13 games of the season without a bye. Arizona has been competitive, but in the end, this is still one of the worst teams in the National Football League.
The Cardinals have their next two games on the road. Both those games are against divisional foes, as they take on the Rams and Seahawks. The Cardinals will then finish the month of October at home against the Ravens.
Arizona is still the biggest underdog to win the NFC at +15000, and their Super Bowl Champion Odds remained tied with Arizona at +40000. The Cardinals’ odds of making the playoffs have dropped to +1500.
Phoenix Suns Preseason
Basketball is back in the desert. Kevin Durant and company are looking to get back in the NBA Finals picture this season after a frustrating end to last season. The Suns have started their preseason slate with their game on Sunday at the Pistons.
The Suns and Nuggets will also meet in Phoenix on Tuesday in a preseason game. The first regular season game for the Suns is on October 24th at the Golden State Warriors. Phoenix then plays at the Lakers in Game 2 to start the season.
The Suns have the second-best odds to win the NBA Finals from the West. They are fourth overall. The Bucks, Celtics, and Nuggets have better odds. The Suns are +650 to win the NBA Finals.
Arizona Coyotes Open Season
The boys on the ice are back! The 2023-2024 regular season drops the puck on Tuesday. The Coyotes scored seven goals in their final preseason game on Saturday. They finished the preseason action with four wins in 9 games.
The Coyotes will start the regular season on Friday as they are at the New Jersey Devils. The Coyotes play their first four games of the season on the road. Arizona remains one of the underdogs in the National Hockey League.
Only six teams have worse odds to win the 2024 Stanley Cup. The Coyotes come into the season at +13000. Arizona is ahead of the Blackhawks, Sharks, and Ducks to win the Western Conference—the Coyotes at +6000.
Arizona State Sun Devils
On Saturday, the Sun Devils lost a crushing to Deion Sanders and his Colorado Buffaloes. The Sun Devils led 17-14 at the end of three, but after tying it up, the Buffaloes kicked a field goal in the final seconds to beat the Sun Devils.
It was their fifth straight loss as they head into their bye week. After the bye, the Sun Devils have Washington and Washington State on their October schedule.
The Hoops season for the Sun Devils is right around the corner. The final Pac-12 Basketball Media Day is this week in Las Vegas. Arizona State starts the basketball season at +20000 to win the National Title.
Arizona Wildcats
It took overtime, but the Arizona Wildcats fell in a thriller to the USC Trojans on Saturday night.
The Wildcats tied the game in the fourth and went three overtimes before the defense got the job done in the third overtime for a 43-41 win. It was a wild one that saw Caleb Williams struggle with just 219 yards and a touchdown pass. The Wildcats kept him down all game but failed to beat him.
The loss for Arizona dropped them to 3-3 on the season. Arizona now goes on the road to Washington State, as the Cougars are coming off a loss.
As with the Sun Devils, the basketball season is arriving. The Wildcats are a threat to reach the NCAA Final Four. Oddsmakers have them at +600 to reach the Final Four and are +2500 to win it all.
Phoenix Mercury finished 9-31
It was a miserable year for the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA. They finished as the worst team in the league. They won just 9 of 40 games. The Mercury will look to rebound next season.
