As the NBA season moves towards Christmas time, the odds for the 2023-2024 Most Valuable Player award have adjusted as the games, and teams have gone along. The Phoenix Suns have two players in the Top 10 when it comes to the award. Here is a look at the Top 10 when it comes to odds to winning the award.
Nikola Jokic +160
The best player in the game on the best team in the game. Sounds like a winner of the Most Valuable Player award, right? Jokic is the odds on favorite to win the award, but there is a bunch of basketball to be played. The big man from Denver does not even look like he is giving full effort, yet averaging 28.6 points per game, 12.9 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game. The Nuggets are cruising through the start of the season.
Luka Doncic +450
The guard from the Dallas Mavericks is up to nearly 32 points per game. Doncic is averaging 10 three point shots attempted per game, but coming down with nearly 9 rebounds and assists per game. The Mavericks are off to a good start, but they melted down late last year, and that’s what everyone remembers most.
Joel Embiid +700
The big man from Philadelphia is leading the NBA in scoring with 33.1 points per game. He is also averaging 11.4 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game. Embiid has played in 17 games this season, and has led Philadelphia to a pretty solid start. The 76ers sent James Harden off in a trade, and seemingly got better following the trade.
Jayson Tatum +1000
The Celtics leading scorer is 10th in the league with 27.6 points per game. Tatum has played in all 20 games for the first place Celtics. Boston was downed by the Pacers in the in-season tournament, but this is going to be a tough team to beat four times in a playoff series. Tatum is a guy that can score at will.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander +1200
What an emergence for this Oklahoma City Thunder point guard. SGA has been incredible, with 30.1 points per game. He is also dishing out 6.3 assists per game. The Thunder have been the biggest surprise in the league, as they are second in the West. It’s tough to guard this guy, and it seems he just keeps getting better.
Giannis Antetokounmpo +1200
The Greek Freak just turned 30 years old. He has played in 20 games this season, scoring more than 30 points per game. He has his team in the in-season tournament Final Four. It feels he may have some rejuvenation with Damian Lillard coming over to take some load off him. The Bucks are going to be a contender when the postseason gets here.
Kevin Durant +2500
The heart and sole of the Phoenix Suns. Sure, Booker is the guy that has been there longer, and is a fan favorite. Durant is the team leader. He is scoring 31 points per game, and averaging 6.5 rebounds per game. Durant is a shot maker, and when the Suns need a bucket, Durant is the guy. Booker has missed time, and Durant has taken over in his absence more than once.
Tyrese Haliburton +2500
Incredible season for the point guard from the Indiana Pacers. Scoring nearly 27 points per game and dishing out nearly 12 assists per game. Haliburton is leading the Pacers to the highest scoring team in the league. Look for him to continue to shine, and is a good candidate to finish behind Jokic for double doubles in a season.
Anthony Edwards +3000
The young guard from Minnesota is leading his Timberwolves to the best record in the Western Conference. Edwards is scoring nearly 26 points per game, with 6 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. Edwards shoots nearly 46% from the field, and 38% from downtown, but his ability to attack the basket is one of the best in the league.
Devin Booker +3500
Booker is 10th on this list, and one people do not want to forget about, because if Kevin Durant were to go down for an extended period of time, this is a guy that can put his team on his back and carry them for a solid amount of time. The Suns have started a little slower than they would have liked with just 12 wins in 21 games, but they are continuing to look better as a team the more their top guys play together.
There is a look at the odds for the 2023-2024 Most Valuable Player. It should be an interesting race to the finish. If you are betting on this market, good luck and enjoy the games. We will be back at the end of January with an odds update.
